What Sets Loop Curtains Apart from Other Window Treatments? or Are Loop Curtains Suitable for Large Windows?

Loop Curtains are more than a window covering; they set the tone for a room and can make or break its look. They also play a key role in blocking harsh sunlight and keeping prying eyes out, but they're much more than that: they're part of the decor, so it's important to choose them wisely. There are many factors to consider, including fabric, color and pattern, and accessories like curtain rods and curtain holdbacks. The style of the top hem of a curtain is called the heading, and it can define its overall look-casual or formal, feminine or sleek. The type of header can also influence how the curtains drape.

There are five main types of curtain rods, each serving a slightly different purpose:

1. Rod Pocket

This is the simplest type of header, and it's perfect for lightweight panels or cafe curtains. It consists of a small pocket at the back of the panel, into which you insert drapery rings or pin hooks. It's the least sturdy option, and it doesn't work well with layered or pleated curtains, but it's the easiest to install, so it's a good choice for renters.

2. Eyes or Loops

These are full-circle rings with a metal loop at the bottom, which you can use with drapery pins that have sharp ends that slide into the top hem or pleat of the Loop Curtains and are then hooked onto the rings. They're more secure than eyelets, but they can cling to the fabric and create a wrinkled appearance. They're more practical than rings, but you'll need a wider curtain for them to hang smoothly.

3. Tabs

To create a tab-top heading, fold one long edge over 1/2 inch toward the wrong side and stitch across the top with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, creating the facing hem. Repeat for the other long edge, then fold and stitch the remaining edges to close up the facings and secure the tabs. Thread a rod or pole through each tab, then hang the curtain.

4. Sheer Curtains

The delicate fabric of sheer curtains can be the ultimate in ethereal beauty, and it's available in every color imaginable. You can create a sophisticated, minimalistic feel by choosing white or ivory-colored sheers, or you can go bolder by choosing a vibrant blue, pink or red. Whether you opt for a subtle hue or a bright one, be sure to consider how the color will interact with other elements in the room, such as the rug and furniture.

5. Curtain Tracks

Unlike the other five types of curtain rods, these do not screw directly into the wall; they attach to a track that sits on the ceiling above the window. This is a great option for tall windows or if you want to hide the hardware on the window casing. You can choose a track in any length you want, but it's best to get the longest one that will fit your space to allow the curtains to flow fully when open.
